Apple 1 Close to finish line.

Here's  my first post on the forum  and my almost working Apple-1 Replica. Not sure what motherboard i have.? Perhaps someone can tell me.

It has taken a few months to get it to this stage and i still have a few bugs to iron out. Can't seem to run the memory test program from my CFFFA1 card or the cassette. -  Still not sure why,?

I'll have to order some more RAM ICs'  to swap out and try. Should i get the MK4027N-1  from unicorn electronics.?

I did manage to use the FRAM card i put together, and I loaded BASIC from tape and seems to boot into basic prompt ok.

Still a novice Apple 1 user but having heaps of fun playing and learning.

I think your board is a Newton-1.  You should easily be able to confirm by looking at the lower right hand corner when you flip the board over.

While I don't own a CFFA1, I do have the same expansion card and such.  Have you tried the CFFA1 without anything else connected to the system including the expander?

Cheers,

Corey

Thank you Cory,

Thank you Cory,

It is indeed a Newton-1 (NG-2012) P/N:AC1 200A

Yes I think I'll try taking all the cards out of the system apart from the cassette interface and try the memory test first.I never did build it up in stages the video section just worked and then  run the Apple 30th demo to test from the CFFA1 card.

It did seem  to work at first but after more test and trying to run programs BASIC doesn't run well on it.

I guessing i should start with Mikes RAM test and go from there, is it worth taking out the X bank and running the test first then add it back and test again before trying  to load basic from cassette etc.? .

I've ordered some MK4027N-1 hope they are the right speed.? Also ordered a few more TTL logic chips just in case. As I guessing that LS or HCT  logic wont be suitable on this board.

Do you have any other advice.?

Cheers

Vernon

It is best to use standard

It is best to use standard TTL except the S257's.  The board is pretty noisy being 2 layer with not a great power and gnd distribution pattern and there are some floating inputs around.  The faster high impedance parts are more sensitive to the noise.  On a couple of Mimeos I built I used the sockets with built in Caps and added extra caps in the sockets where appropriate.

I was curious where you got the boards for the expansion boards.  Did you have the bare boards made?

Hi Wendell

Hi Wendell

Thank you for the advice on the TTL Chips.I used the gerbers files from (http://www.apple1notes.com) for the Expansion, serial, FRAM board,  i believe they are your design files. It's very lucky that you made them available.

You did a great job on these.

I would of made got a USB board made as well, but could not find any - EASY INPUT V2.4KEYBOARD EMULATOR IC's. anywhere. And I guessing there is no other replacement.

Did you ever great design files from the ASCII Keyboard for Apple 1/Apple II finished to make available, Looks like another great project.
