Hi all,
I just received a recap kit from Console5.com. A very good site for such items! I ordered the kit for the model AIIe I have, AA11040-B.
I started to remove caps, and noticed the replacement caps values are different. I am not a EE person and do know too much about what the values mean. I have read you should replace caps with same or better.
The large caps on the high side show 100uf 250v. The replacement caps is about 1/2 the size and shows 47uf 250V. Can I use these?
Just want to verify.
Thanks
That's half the capacitance. I would check with the seller. If it's not a mistake, it would be interesting to hear their reasoning. It's not like 100uf caps are unavailable.

That doesn't sound right.
The general rule of thumb is to *match* the capacitance (in your case the 100uF) and have *equal or greater* voltage specification (e.g. you could substitute a capacitor rated for 400V in place of a 250V capacitor).
Sometimes the capacitance can vary slightly, but going from 100uF to 47uF doesn't sound right to me. I'm only a pretend hardware guy so I maybe wrong, but I would wait for verification before soldering in those replacements!
Cheers,
Mike
Thanks averyone.
I did receive what they list as what is in an Astgec aa11040-b
https://console5.com/wiki/Apple_2
Also, looks at apples offical parts list here:
https://archive.org/details/Astec_Power_Supplies_Aug82/page/n19
what I got appears to be correct.
But I pulled 100uf out of mine. This unit comes out of standard IIe.
The PSU does not look like someone went in and changed things.
thoughts??
Thanks again
Some of the power supplies I've recapped came with 100uF capacitors instead of 47uF, and it look was its original value, I would replace it with the same capacitance values
Larger one I assume would be better for a PSU anyway. So I'll order some.
Thanks everyone!! You help ia aways much appreciated for my novice questions.
I also have recapped both type power supllies 47uF and 100uF, also noticed that some are with 47uF , others with 100uF caps. I replace them everytime with the same capacity.

You have a kit for the Astec PSU but your PSU is probably a Dynacomp. Dynacomp use 2 x 100uF capacitors, Astec use 4 x 47uF capacitors.
Short answer is no you cant use them.
Some of Astec PSU's are also with 47uF. This is one of them i had recapped.

I changed the 47uf for 100uf and had no trouble. A2e booted up fine. No smoke. I put several cards in that draw a bit, and did not see any problems.
But I change all the 47's for 100's. I would not recomend a mix of them.
FYI
I recommend you to change all with the same capacity as original, no mixing and changing values :) If original is with 100uF replace them with 100uF again :)
