IIc+ internal drive being seen as external! How to change?

This may be an issue of using System Utilities version 2.1.1 on an Apple IIc Plus.  However, what happens is that it thinks that the internal 3.5" drive is the first external one!

For example, I pick choice 7 from the menu:  Identify and Catalog a Disk.  It asks me:  Where is your disk?  The first choice is BUILT-IN DRIVE, but that looks to the attached 5 1/4" external drive.  If it's not attached, it balks, not finding the disk or drive.    I have to select choice #2:  EXTERNAL 3.5" DRIVE for it to read the internal drive!

Weird, eh?!

Is there a simple way of fixing that, especially permanently?

Or, is that just the way this works?

I think that is the way it

I think that is the way it works. When you plug in an external 5.25" drive, it acts like it is slot 6 drive 1, which makes it have prority over the internal 3.5 drive, which is slot 5 drive 1.  This is the same way the IIgs works.

I agree it's confusing in that utility that is refers to it as internal/external.  If you had two 3.5" drives that would be correct.

Thanks for the fast reply!

Thanks for the fast reply!

So, I hooked up an external 3.5" drive and now Choice 7:  Identify and Catalog ends up showing TWO EXTERNAL 3.5" drives!

#1 EXTERNAL is the internal 3.5" drive.

#2 EXTERNAL is the actual EXTERNAL 3.5" drive.

Very strange on Apple's part.

One other thing of note:  It's a wonderful old-fashioned thrill to press the Eject button and have the disks slide out!

OTOH, the noises the drives make while formatting a disk or floppy are jarring-- yes, it's the old familair racket, especially on the 5.25" drives, but it's unsettling.  That first noise sounds like the drive is breaking every time.  My spouse laughs each time she hears it, as it reminds her of the old Apple II days, too!

What is the copyright on that

What is the copyright on that disk? It should say all over the menus since it's an Apple product. They were big about having the copyrights everywhere in their programs.

Pretty sure that version of System Utilities is from 85 or 86, so it only knows about the regular IIc, not the IIc plus, which came out in late 1988 or early 1989.
