So as posted before. I have a stupid rfi keyboard that has issue. While using it and having the keys get better. The return key stopped working. So I opened it up, cleaned it and put it back together. (Not sure how some of the plastic line up pins broke. But they did. Anyway all the keys worked except once again the return key. So I opened it up again today and stuck it back together. That was even a bigger mistake. Now more keys don't work. So besides the ps2 / apple ii keyboard adaptor. I'm going to get one. What is the best approch or replacement for this keyboard? Well I do see tested good one's on ebay. But they are 130.00 or so and well. That cuts into my budget of small list of things to get for my apple ii.
Thanks for any help,
Josh
After I few more tries I ordered a ps/2 to apple II+ keyboard adaptor. Works like a champ. I also have a Super Serial card in the way that I hope should be in this weekend. So I'll get to try more diags. I will keep you Nerds posted.
LOL,
Josh
RFI keyboard repair is usually measured in beer, as in how many beers it takes till all the keys work,
There are some tricks to fixing them. #1 tape the plastic sheet on the left and right sides to the pcb so it’s always aligned. Also toothpicks in the screw holes to align the top/bottom when you put it on. And never ever use alcohol to clean the keys like you do with the older keyboards. You can also use contact cement or crazy glue to keep the metal strips in place on their little plastic bumps, just don’t use a lot and be careful the “metal leaves” are not sticking because of the glue before reassembly.
Good luck and I hate to see an original keyboard go to waste, even an RFI one.
Cheers,
Corey
