Performa 200 (Mac Classic II) screen died

My old Performa 200 9" screen now displays a single horizontal line. I'm assuming the old display is dead. I still have data on the drive that I'd like to keep, but I can't access it with this computer. I'm open to suggestions. Thanks.

scroll down until you see the words "A Bright Horizontal Line in the Black Monitor" (without quotes), if you have another mac with scsi you can either put that Hard drive in an external drive case or put it inside the mac.

Case for an old SCSI drive

Thanks for the info. from your site. Do you know where I might purchase a case for turning the SCSI drive from my Performa 200 (Mac Classic II)into an external drive? Thanks.

Performa200/ClassicII screen died

Classic symptoms of the Classic's classically leaking capacitors.

Many have tried the "dishwasher" method for short term restoration of access to the machine. Placing the mother board in a dishwasher cycle (No High Heat!) has had the effect of cleaning the leaked electrolytic fluid from the mother board and temporarily allowed the machine to boot. (Need I say, make sure it is dry before reinstalling and powering up?)

If you remove your mother board, you could examine it for leaking capacitors, and if they show leakage, clean with Isopropyl alcohol (if  the dishwasher is too much for you). This may allow the machine to function for a time. NO Guarentees.

This is not a definitive, only a potential solution. There may be other issues needing repair such as the flyback transformer, or other problems.

These options are AT Your Own Risk!

Google Classic/Classic II dishwasher and check out the several you tube solutions.

Cheers!

This problem is usually due

This problem is usually due to a bad joint at the yoke connection. Since you have to open it up anyway, you should try touching those up with a soldering iron. The CRT is definitely not bad and the Mac should be easy to repair.
