Interest in Apple II Discord server?

I have been running a private retrotech serer on Discord, and I have consiered making it public.

How many people here would be interested in a Discord server for Apple II (and other, similar, retrotech) discussion?

I may pop in on IRC, but I doubt it will have a lot of 8 bit discussion. I am on Discord 2/7, an I figured a retro Apple II, III, Lisa, and early 68K Mac iscord server ould be helpful, particularly for live discussion on these topics, which are esoteric.

I'll build up tthe server and see what if people use it. If not, that's fine.

This is for people who use Discord, hich saly there is no way to use irectly on this ol hardware, but if people want to chat live, an want a portable way to o it, this may be of interest. It covers only Apple II throgh Mac Quadra in its scope, an I have no intent to include newer equipment with it.

I added member groups for each platform and sub-platform that can be used as @mention tokens.

It's true #applefritter, like all of IRC, is not as popular as it used to be. Despite falling numbers, I've resisted the temptation to move to newer platforms like Slack or Discord, because I'm not willing to leave a community-run and open platform for a proprietary, corporate platform.

ex-parrot and I have been looking at options to address IRC's shortcomings. I experimented quite a bit with Quassel. It's nice on Linux, but weak on Mac OS and has limited clients. We ultimiately decided to host a ZNC IRC bouncer, which is compatible with any IRC client. ex-parrot has scripted ZNC authentication to use Applefritter accounts. Right now we're trying to sort out how we want to handle usernames that contain spaces.

There's something about a vintage Computer Forum

There's something about a vintage Computer Forum that doesn't try to stay too "up to date" in all repects.

Though I frequent other sites as well, I really like this one, regardless of its short-commings.

Then again, I'm old, don't like too much change, etc. etc.

I agree. At the same time, it is nice to have options. I am by no means in love wit Discord, having several rounds of arguments with the *ni devs, but it;s useful.

By no means do I intend it to supplant forums, BBSs, and IRC. It is merely a useful medium.

I started out by plunking down some useful resource links, and I welcome the members that have joined. I hope that people will use, and enjoy the service, but please o not let it keep you from being active elsewhere.

More than anything else, I figured that it would be a useful medium for helping people with live diagnostics an troubleshooting.
