Help with macOpener to see Mac formatted HD on XP PC

Hi,

I had Pro-tools audio files set to both OS transferred to a mac OS HD in a Firewire box.

I now have it connected to my XP PC but whilst the drive can be seen in XP Admin as a Un-initiated drive, I cannot see the drive or files.

I have MacOpener and still cannot see them.

What am I doing wrong?

Thanks

Rock

Was the drive formatted in HF

Was the drive formatted in HFS, HFS+ or UFS? If OS 8.1-X it's at least HFS+, and if OS X there is a slim chance it's UFS. I'd bet on HFS+, myself.

As for future transfers, it's generally recommended to use the drive as formatted as FAT32 so Windows won't have any trouble and the Mac should handle it just fine.

Thanks.. I have asked the

Thanks..

I have asked the guy who did it and all he knows it was 9.1 or 2. He said he initiated the same drive that I had previously formatted as FAT32 in my XP box. It did work in the XP before I gave it to him for the Mac transfer.

At the moment it is still in my Firewire box connected to XP.

What options are open to me to get to mt data?

Thanks

I tried to use macopener to m

I tried to use macopener to move some files from a firewire drive to my new PC. I got nothing but blue screens and crashes. Then I downloaded MacDrive 6 and got it to work just fine. Uninstall all the macopener stuff and get MacDrive. It seems to be undergoing regular updates, the version I had expired within a week when the next version was set to come out.

Once I had MacDrive installed I shut the computer down, attached to FireWire drive and turned it on the booted up the computer. I was able to back up everything just fine. However, I never tried to write to the disk I just copied from it.

Thanks! Using the trial versi

Thanks! Using the trial version 6, the Mac drive showed up in Xpo first time and I am copying them now.

For others in the future who may find this message trying to access a Mac from XP..

I did get the message that another there was another partition on the drive other than a Mac and that I had the option of 'fixing' it. I chose this, but got another panel saying that the drive was in use by another app. I couldn't find anything using it, altho' it may have been picked up by my network sensor. Anyway I just clicked 'Cancel' and there was the drive, wav and session files and I played one to see whether it works. Sho nuff it did!

Just shows,, some progs do and some don't! MacOpener - $199 NO, Mac Drive $34 YES !

Thanks again.

Glad to hear things got sorte

Glad to hear things got sorted and the data is still ok (I'm guessing Smile )! FWIK when a Mac formats a drive that was previously a FAT drive, ti doesn't always kill the old format completely. I think I rememebr seeing the same thing when playing with some of my Mac-formatted SCSI drives on PCs. Does anyone else know more?

Thanks Jon, Yes all the dat

Thanks Jon, Yes all the dat is AOK.

The only trouble I am up to now is that the guy didn't name the song tracks but just numbered them and somehow he has the numbers going all over the place!! For example found all 16 tracks on one song but the lead vocal does not carry that same song number! Weird!

Anyway back to Mac and PC.. MacDrive is a Yes Vote! Also noted the Os was HF !

Thanks again..
