Help with replacing a capacitor on a //e

Hi all,

I need to replace C68 on my board - my bad, when prying out the keyboard ROM I didn't realise that the tool was resting on it and I slightly cracked it.

C68, according to the schematics, is a 0.1uF capacitor on the +5V. What type of capacitor will be the best one to replace it? Can those glass capacitors still be sourced - to keep the original look - or can I replace it with a plastic capacitor?

Thanks!

See eBay item 254265711614  I think this is what you want.

Cool - somehow that item did

Cool - somehow that item did not show up in my previous search, I could only find someone selling ONE of those for £12!! :D

I think I'll get those, thank you again. In the meantime, to test the board after I washed it, what would be a suitable replacement for that cap?

Thanks!

I would recommend you just leave it out...

I would recommend you just leave it out for now.  It's only a decoupling cap.  There are more than a dozen others on there and the effect of it out will be minimal at best.

I'd just wait until you get to replacement and not solder in a temp replacement.  Save your board the stress.

Thanks, I was thinking the

Thanks, I was thinking the same.

The good news is that upon further inspection the capacitor is intact. I tested it out of the board and it reads correctly and there is no damage on it. I think what I saw was some plastic debris from the socket when I was prying the chip out.

Thanks for your help macnoyd - appreciated!
