Transfer single files to Apple //e

Hi all,

I have been enjoying ATDPro and I can succesfully transfer .dsk files to the Apple to write on a disk.

However, I was wondering if there is a way to just send files to and from the Apple - not whole disks.

Also, is there a way to open and manipulate  .dsk files on Windows?

Thanks!

Question for you guys: both

Question for you guys: both Ciderpress and Applecommander seem to be software able to work with files and disk images on Windows - which is great. But they do not seem to deal with transferring those files. So, unless I am mistaken, my initial question stands: is there a way to just transfer one file onto an Apple //e disk?

What I Would Do

Unless you're planning on transferring a lot of single files, what I would do is:

  1. Use Ciderpress to create a blank disk image
  2. Copy whatever file(s) you need onto the blank disk image
  3. Use ADTPro to transfer that image onto a real disk on the Apple II

Yes. But then you have a disk

Yes. But then you have a disk with just one file on it? I guess I could then just transfer the file onto another disk - I have two Disk ][ so it's not the end of the world.

As you said, once you have the file(s) on the Apple II you can copy them onto another disk. It's certainly going to be alot easier than faffing around trying to get comms programs setup. However, if you will be doing this a lot (i.e. you will be copying single files regularly), then perhaps it is worth the effort of getting comms programs talking and transferring files. It really depends on your use case. But for a once of transfer, ADTPro would be by far the easiest route to take IMHO.

Yes I guess you are right. I

Yes I guess you are right. I have managed to get the serial working and to transfer a single file but the file did not work. I'll still play with it but I agree that with two drives the best solution is probably to just to organise the files after they have been "burnt" to a whole disk.

The easiest way is the aforementoned AppleCommander and CiderPress, however, you can do NULL Modem transfers, if you feel up to that complex of a mechanism.
