FDC4: This is the name of a

FDC4: This is the name of a floppy controller board produced by LMD, Ehring or IBS (AP53). This should be a 2716 or 2732. This controller is able to connect two drives each a Apple drive or a (modified) Teac with 40 or 80tracks and single or double sided.

Erphi: There is a similiar floppy controller board for two drives like the FDC4 above. This should also be a 2716.

Erphi, Ehring and IBS were companies from West Germany.

If you would publish the images (or send me via pm) I compare them to the original content.

Describe your configuration! Means: the kind of drives you want to connect.

For the Ehring board: the image "FDC4 ProDOS 1.bin" is the right one. The other is unknown to me. The Erphi image may be suitable. It's similiar to version 6.5. My first link above gives you version 8.1.

You always need some patches for the operating systems because the low level drivers for these controllers are different. Except: Erphi offered an "Auto Patch Firmware" which patches some operating systems in the moment they are loaded from disk to RAM. You must read and understand the manual, IMHO.

It's not possible to use HD drives because the controller cannot read/write the 500kb/sec for HD, just 250kb/sec for MFM/DD. The other restriction is the interface which is not real Shugart compatible. If you use a Shugart compatible drive you must change some analoge detail means i.e. add a small capacitor to the Teac drive. If you find a description for i.e. a Teac FD-35F you can be successful. There is a description for the Teac FD-55F and a NEC drive, AFAIR in the book from IBS (the other german company with their AP53).

Means: Shugart drives are not compatible to the Apple standard. Some drives can be adapted.
