16p to 9p Joystick Adapter

I have a few of these, and before I use one, I just want a reminder. Should the red stripe be on the front (toward the KB), or away (toward case back)?

I will likely do a pinout continuity check ere using it, but I figured I would ask before I spend that bother. I think that pin 1 is the lower-left pin on the internal connector, but that is from memory, which tells me that the red stripe should be on the borrom, towared the KB. I suppose I can connect it and check for vcc on the right output pin; probably the easiest way.

There were many 16 pin to 9

There were many 16 pin to 9 pin adapters made by various manufactureres, so I can't really answer that.

Pin 1 of the game port on the motherboard is +5V, so it should be a realtively minor task to bell-out the pins on your adapter.

9-16 pin out Apple II Joystick

I ran across this which might speed the process for the next person. I have not verified it.

(9-pin male connector)         (Old 16-pin IC-style plug)

         [2]---------------  +5V            ------- 1

         [7]---------------  Button 0       ------- 2

         [5]---------------  X-axis         ------- 6

         [8]---------------  Y-axis         ------- 10

         [1]---------------  Button 1       ------- 3

         [3]---------------  Ground         ------  8

In any case, the red stripe does go on the bottom, toward the KB, on my adapter. I went through a continuity check, ere using it, to be safe, and I connected my CH joystick to the unit on my desk.
