Look mommy – no pixels! i.e. Printed version of typesetting job of Apple-1 Operation Manual

Hello everybody,

today, the postman brought three early christmas presents:

1. The printed version of the first full page ad of the Apple-1

2. The printed version of the Preliminary Basic Users Manual

3. The printed version of the Operation Manual (incl. fold-out section, see pictures)

I inspected the work of the printers with my thread counter magnifier and my verdict is: I am close to tears: They are such a beauty – see the pictures.

Over the next couple of days, I will inspect the whole print run and then will make them available. The printers still work on the Cassette Interface manual which should be with me in a week to two. Then I will make the whole set available.

For now, please enjoy with me these pictures!

Best

Armin

And here a direct comparison of a reprint from the best scan to be found online and the typesetting job:

Feature about the process

For everybody interested, I have posted a feature that tells a bit more about the project:

Cassette Interface Manual finished, too (pictures)

We are almost done! Today, I have received the ACI manuals back from the printers.

But there is one more thing …

On some of the photos of the original manual you can see a stamp of Byte Shop. I though it would be fun to recreate the stamp in case people would like to have a stamp on their manuals. So I have recreated that one, too, and have it produced as I am typing this …

Hello...yes your quality of

Hello...yes your quality of your documents is good. What I did not understand, I had already ordered from you on Ebay and had it delivered before you said here that the delivery from the printer had just arrived.Do you still have different variants / qualities?I don't have the circuit diagram inside as a fold-out document. In particular, the "size" of the documents seems to be different from the original ?! or did the main instructions and basic instructions also look in DINA-4 at that time? and how big is the real ACI manual? On your basic instructions, the symbol still seems a bit washed out, that the template could have been replaced with the symbol in the main instructions.Best wishes

I think you bought the OLD variant I produced there. I had printed the scans properly by a printing company.

These are NOT the re-creations I have mentioned in this thread, tough, which look WAY, WAY, WAYYYY better. PM me and we will sort this out, ok?

9to5mac.com ran the re-design

Cool! Just found out that 9to5mac.com ran the story about the manuals today!

So, from today onwards I am officially recognized as an "obsessive apple fan". :-D

Deutsches Museum exhibits re-created Apple-1 manuals

This is getting unreal!

The "Deutsches Museum", the world's largest museum of science and technology, just sent me this picture. They are showing all three re-creations I made of the Apple-1 manuals in their official computer exhibition.

This is it. Nothing more to achieve here. I will go there tomorrow by myself to make better pictures.

Bliss. Just endless bliss…

Ist möglicherweise ein Bild von Innenbereich

You've made it now. Well

You've made it now. Well deserved and earned.

Really enjoyed reading along with your progress and attention to detail as well as the techniques you used.

Great stuff.
