Apple IIe Ram chips confused.

Hi Everyone new to Forum and Vintage Apple Computing, picked up early  revision pal UK Apple IIe, Poor thing is not working and generally sorry state thought it would be an interesting project. IIe has not ran in over 20 years so before i started though i would order new  Capacitor PSU and spare set of Ram chips, capacitor no problem, ram chips have me a bit confused,  never worked on vintage computer before so probaly a stupid question here goes. ram chips currently in machine all motorola mcm66665ap20 four marked five marked 8301 one marked 8303 and two marked 8241 why three different part numbers ? or are they date codes?   i looked on ebay for replacement chips but could not find anything in the UK so looked for new ones. Are these any good ? Does anyone know of any suppliers in uk?

Those are just date codes.

Those are just date codes.

You can use any 4164 compatible chip.

Here is a list:

Congrats on the purchase!! I

Congrats on the purchase!!

I think it is pretty essential to change those Rifa capacitors in the power supply since the probability is pretty high that they could go *POOF* at first power-up!

Regarding the RAM chips - it would do no harm to power it up even with failed chips.

Do the CRTL - OPEN_APPLE - CLOSED_APPLE - RESET to run the self-test and you should know right away if you have anything wrong.

If it doesn't want to power-on, remove all the cards first and test just the motherboard. If that is successful, then add back the cards one by one and retest.
