MicroDrive Problem

Hi All,

This one driving me a bit crazy. I have the GS version of the MicroDrive Turbo. I have 4 volumes on there, 3 that came with the card, one I created. The first is PRODOS and utilities, the 2nd is a GS/OS volume, 3rd is Total Replay, and the 4th I've created both a GS/OS 6.01 and 6.04 volume.

I can boot into the PRODOS/utilities volume no problem, I can boot the Total Replay volume no problem. What I cannot do is boot any of the GS/OS volumes. I see the red line filling up the bar, it gets to the end...and then, nada. The volume that came with the card seems fine, the other 6.01 and 6.04 I've tried are from whatisthe2gs and they seem fine as well. I have a 4 MB RAM card. No other cards except the RAM.

If I boot into GS/OS from a 3,5" floppy, it boots fine, no issues, and I can explore those other partitions with no problem.

Any idea why I can't boot into GS/OS from the MDT?

I tried booting the same

I tried booting the same image from my FloppyEmu, it boots fine. If I try holding Space when I boot, it appears to be getting stuck when it loads ProDOS FST.

I also had touble booting the

I also had touble booting the GS/OS volumes included on the card that came with the MicroDrive/Turbo.

I think that the boot volume has to be the first volume on the card.

And for reliability you should install the boot volume from scratch from the source floppy disk images (you can use a Floppy Emu for this)

Thanks, I can try that. How

Thanks, I can try that. How do you make the GS/OS volume the first volume? I see them listed in Ciderpress with the ProDOS/utilities as the first listing, the MDVOL2 which has the GS/OS as the second, and so on. I can't see any way in Ciderpress to change the names and/or the order they are listed. I currently set the volume 2 to boot from the setup utility.

So, I tried just doing a

So, I tried just doing a single GS/OS partition on the CF card, the one that came with the card,  and booting from that...but, same problem, it must be soemthing with my system that is cuasing it to hang like this. Not sure what else to try. Boots fine from FE or 3.5" drive, just not from MDT. And the other partitions boot fine from MDT, just not GS/OS.

So...sorta kinda fixed. I was

So...sorta kinda fixed. I was using the MDT manual which said to set the DMA to my system ROM 01. Saw a quick start guide on Reactive's site that actually said to disable it, and sure enough, now it boots into GS/OS. Of course, not as zippy as I've seen the MDT be and even their manual says, "Set DMA Mode to "Disable" to experience the performance loss of your Apple II System if you were using a Non-DMA Mass Storage Device. DMA Performance is the key feature that you get with the MicroDrive Turbo, only from ReActiveMicro." Well, I don't want that performance loss, lol, but at least it boots now.
