I have a hardware device that I am considering building. Right now I am in the initical research stage. One thing I came across is that to build ADB devices you need to obtain a ADB license. I also found some stuff that says you get a whole bunch of ADB ,like timing and stuff, when you register.
1. Does anyone know if Apple will even give out an ADB license anymore.
2. Is the information they send really helpful or are the various hardware docs just as good.
I am debating getting a license because I do not plan to sell or distribute my device right now. I read one place that it only costs $50 to get the license which is not too bad of a price.
I doubt Apple would still provide the license and such, as there are no currently shipping machines with ADB functionality. You never know until you ask, though.
call their corporate headquarters
How is that helpfull?
I don't know why I even bother anymore. All of the smart people have left the Internet. Guess I'll move along now and maybe I'll figure out where they went.
With all due respect, you are the one asking for an ADB licence for some sort of ADB device you seem to plan to build and sell... when **nobody** uses ADB these days, it's been dead since 1998 and there is absolutely no reason for anyone to NEED an ADB licence, so there will be no way of obtaining one.
So those two replies are all you're gonna get.
Looks like someone was a tad cranky and frustrated last night!
redrouteone, pout all you like, but you did get your answer - call Apple!
I'd be more concerned about the technical and marketing viability of your project before worrying about licenses. If it ain't gonna get built for other reasons, then why bother with a license?
In any case, I bet you'll get the license information you seek directly from Apple within a phone call or two. I also bet they won't give two s&*ts what ADB device you build.
Heck, now I'm curious! What sort of device are you contemplating producing on a scale that would 'need' a license? No need to be specific if you don't want, just what class of device?

...calling Apple would have been the first thing I tried. Perhaps a better question for you to have asked is "does anyone have the information I seek in respect to ADB data". No need to snipe as you have if you do not like the answer.

FWIW, if it so happens you're planning an optical mouse for ADB, it's already been done. I've got one down in my lab hooked to my PowerWave.
Pics! Pics!
The lab, the PowerWave, or the mouse? :coolmac: I know, I know, I'll try to get a few shots here pretty soon. I've mentioned it here before, but only dug it out of a box several weeks ago when I brought home the clone.

In that PDF conversion is the specific address/contact info required for obtaining the ADB License.
