Renewed ACI board design

Hey guys! I've been following mrtitanic777 (open source board update) and retroplace_1 (assembled boards with wave soldering technology) projects with great interest. And I thought it was time to update the ACI card design a bit. I enlarged the diameter of the adapter holes a bit, made elongated contact pads, increased the font of the lettering and added the SCC logo to make it look a bit more like the original. I am not a pro in this field, frankly speaking, I knew nothing about it, so I asked Misha to help me. In principle, it is not particularly difficult. I wanted to be done by April 1st for Apple's birthday, but the situation changed unexpectedly at the end of winter and it took a little longer. It became very unexpected for me that I can no longer pay for ordering boards at JLCPCB, but I met a guy from China and he made my order even a little cheaper than at JLCPCB. What can I say, when some doors close, others on the contrary open and new opportunities open with them. Ordering 10 boards with shipping to Russia cost about $20, that is about $2 a piece. I mean that one guy from Canada sells similar boards on eBay for 40$, it seems to me that it is too expensive, but everyone should decide for himself. I assembled one already. It works, because I did not change the wiring of the board, I only moved the holes for the audio connectors a bit (the TO TAPE and FRM TAPE inscriptions didn't fit). I'll add some pics and gerber file below.

Hi Igor,Nice work! Is it

Hi Igor,

Nice work! Is it possible for you to send one over to Holland? Unpopulated I mean.

regards,

Bobby

Hey, nijssen!

Bobby this is unfortunately not the best time to trade, I am not sure if your customs will let it through, in addition I am cut off from all financial systems, it is impossible for me to transfer money. So until the war is over all my projects will be free. You will be easier to order yourself on JLCPCB using my gerber files, there is nothing difficult, if you want I can help you with this. But thanks for your interest!

Thank you for your advice, I will look into that!

Yes the world is a bit sick, make love, not war :). Take care.

Thank you for sharing. I'm

Thank you for sharing. I'm somewhat interested in building myself one, and I have no problem ordering from JLCPCB, but is there a component list / build instructions somewhere?

Hi skate323k137!
Thanks for the interest! Here's the schematic and the list of components, no other instructions needed, it's pretty simple. The only thing I can say is that I always used a 0.1uF capacitor instead of 0.01uF, according to Mike Willegal's advice. This way the card works more stable.

Perfect, thank you. I have

Perfect, thank you. I have piles of .1uF so that works out. I should have a couple of the ICs on hand, but would need to source the LM311 and 82S129 chips, as well as phone jacks. Would something like these work or does someone know a digikey number / US supplier of the perferred recepticle? https://www.markertek.com/product/sw-35pm1/switchcraft-35pm1-3-5mm-1-8-inch-mini-single-mono-jack-open-circuit

Perhaps I'll give this a go. I have been assembling a lot of projects lately, but I feel like it's only right I assemble one of these for my Replica1, even if the P-LAB SD card solution is working great for me.

The standard ACI does not work on Apple-1 replicas !

Uncle Bernie disagrees.

The original ACI circuit needs a negative voltage supply which the Replica1 does not have (assuming you mean Vince Briel's design as seen in Tom Owad's book featured in the start page of this website). I know that some people are sloppy with their language and mix up words and this has plagued the English language forever, Webster's Unabridged dictionary has 250000 English words, most of which have so many different meanings that they are useless to express precise thoughts.

The ACI in its original form only works on original Apple-1 or their clones (and a "replica" ain't no "clone").

I have a modified ACI circuit and two generations of modified ACI PCBs which run from +5V only but so far I had no opportunity to test them on a Briel Replica1.

Yes, I am in fact referring

Yes, I am in fact referring to the Briel and appreciate your response and clarity.

I suppose then I'll stall this project for now. I already have made an adjustable MeanWell power supply for my Briel, and I could in theory use a different MeanWell with more voltage rails available, depending on what (negative) voltage is needed. But a modified card would probably make more sense.
