Bit by Bit - Exploring Low-Level Programming on the Apple IIe

All,

I've just created a new playlist containing my work on learning more about low-level programming on the Apple iie and posted about it on my blog:

https://decuser.github.io/retro/assembly/videos/2025/10/10/bit-by-bit.html

Here's a link the playlist:

What you should expect from the videos - a newb Apple IIe user's take on how to do low-level programming on the machine (virtual). I will share what I learn, how I learn it, and even what I don't understand. It's not meant to be an expert talking at a newb, but just one fellow explorer talking to others about what I'm figuring out.

That said, I am no newb to technology, so it's not uninformed, just naive :). Most of y'all are prolly not it's target demographic, but I think you'll appreciate it.

I love doing it  - exploring machine language, revisiting BASIC and seeing with new eyes how it relates to the machine code, flitting back and forth from FP Basic, INT Basic, the machine monitor, the mini-assembler, merlin - it's all so immediate and immediately gratifying to cause a beep, to see a brick appear, pretty much all of it.

The first four episodes are up and I can see that I have a lot to learn about the subject matter, but also about doing video, so it may be a little rough out of the gate, but I'll refine it.

Please enjoy.

Regards,

Will

p.s. Thanks to Roger Wagner for such an accessible introduction to machine language and assembly. To Chris Torrence for pulling all of the issues together into a single book and pdf and for doing Assembly Lines videos - how I came to even know such a thing existed. And to the apple emulator folks for making it all possible.
