I just got an Apple II off ebay. It has a broken 4 and Reset key. I thought I could fix the 4 key with a swap of the repeat key but whoever attempted to fix this keyboard broke a lot. Many of the little plastic pieces that hold the metal switches (not ALP like swithes) are gone. So alignment is tough. I may take some thin nails and use them as guides. The though hole for the 4 key shaft is messed up. I couldn't get the repeat key shaft into the 4 hole and I can't see where the exact problem lies yet. The repeat shaft did work well for the Reset and I should be able to attempt to glue the old shaft back together though I think a new shaft would be much wiser.
Now the last parrt: any hints on how to reassemble this keyboard. I have all the screws marked but would the plastic pins the alignment is turning out to be a bear.
I'll get pictured later today.
There are several different keyboards with pretty different designs and key switches used for the Apple ][ and ][+ models. Pictures will definitely help people identify which variant you have.

I think they call that a RF version. I tried to fix one and never could get it just right. Then, I had one I could not see any problem. But one key just stopped working. So I puchased a ps/2 adaptor and used that. Then when I obtained another 2+ and used that keyboard. Yea, I felt bad. But, I took what I wanted and seold the rest on e-bay a few years back. Luckly.
I wish you luck.
Went the same route. I have the PS/2 board. Not bad but I have no idea how to hit reset with it. I have the new stems and will work on that later.
On many common Apple II PS/2 keyboard adapters, pressing
CTRL+ATL+DELwill send a RESET to the motherboard.I think I tried it, I will try it again.
