Looking for Technical Documentation on the Rockwell, R65C03, ( if it exists..)

Hello All;

I also just received an Apple //e Enhanced, and was looking at the Motherboard and noticed the CPU is a Rockwell R65C03.

Google has NOT BEEN my Friend while looking for what makes this Rockwell chip different from the R65C02 or the WDC W65C02S6PG-xx or the Synertek SYx6502

I get lots of Google Hits, to pages where you can Search for the R65C03, but no Actual Information.. The Synertek SYx6502 document shows a SYP6503 and SYC6503, but at 28 pins, I don't thing it replaces a 65C02...

Again, Thanks in advance...

Re: Looking for Technical Documentation on the Rockwell, ...

that´s correct... the chip with 28 pins is similar to the 6509.... in those days they had some kind of "preliminary MCU" similar to nowadays PIC-chips with small controller inside and usually programmable epromspace and window on top...
they were in specific way comparable with the 65HC11....

and the experience with google isn´t really that abnorm.... the only thing abnorm is the mental logic of the programmers at google and the way they make the database keyword search..... it seems to be the same kind of "genious mind" at ebay if you don´t get a bid and they offer you "alternatives" still active.....

if you don´t get a bicycletire you surely want to bid instead to some used cartires ???? or if you miss a bid to an appleinterface you surely want to see the offers to tshirts in applegreen or to applejuice..... probably you might replace the interface with a tshirt ???? at least at ebay they seem to think that way....
or to "classical logic design" probably those programmers simply don´t understand that there is a difference between and AND and NAND (i.e. NOT AND ) !

and the chip ??? probably it might be usefull to instead think about one thing: "shit happens....", maybe you just got one of the few chips with mistyped printing on the top and the quality-control was absent from his place due to urgent "human needs".... resulting with the point that several few chips went off the factory with mistakes by misprinting in the batch..... stampcollectors can tell obvious stories about misprintings .... probably something similar happened here too...

Those are common enough, I have several. I think Apple ordered a bunch of 65C02 processors and asked that they be labeled 65C03. You'll should find them in most of the platinum IIe.

mislabeled by customer-demand ? that sounds like some very early kind of SJ paranoia "trying to cheat the copy cats...."
