I'm restoring an Apple //c at the moment and discovered this sticker inside the case, near the power supply switch. Can anyone help me identify?
Looks like it says 'Hill Street' and 'Test.' with a number 38 inside a crude Apple logo.
See attached image.
EDIT: It does say TEST.
Hello CWJ_Wilko,
I already saw this type of sticker at the back of some Apple //e keyboards.
Maybe some sort of QC label ?
QC sticker is my guess as well. I wonder if Hill Street refers to a manufacturing location?
With no particular evidence, but having looked at a wide variety of QC checker ID stickers, I'm betting Hill Street was a nickname for a particular testing row in the factory and since this might be a reference to an American TV show popular at the time, I'd wager that it was assembled in Fremont, CA?
Looks like 'TEST' to me.
You're right, it does say TEST.. I missed the T.
The bottom of the case indicates that it was assembled in Ireland, was there a Hill Street in Ireland? Or as said, maybe it was a particular manufacturing row inside the factory? Possibly based on the TV show?
Well, Apple's European headquarters and factory is located in Hollyhill, Cork, Ireland. Google Maps doesn't show any Hill Streets nearby, so perhaps it's just a play on words?
I suppose stuff like this matters little, but it's still interesting to think about its origin and what it 'means'. I nearly started scrubbing the case clean before I saw the sticker.
CWJ,
I would say that the "38" is the Inspector Number.
Steven
Fascinating - thanks Steven.
