Hi everyone,
I’d like to share two free, open-source games I’ve been working on for the Apple II. Both come as bootable 5¼-inch disk images — just boot the disk and play.
ChromaBreak — enhanced Apple //e and Apple //c, 128 KB
ChromaBreak is an Arkanoid-inspired brick-breaker in 16-colour double hi-res, with 60 boards, six power-ups, enemies, and three difficulty settings.
You can play with a mouse, keyboard, joystick or paddles. The paddle moves vertically as well as horizontally, and its movement adds spin to the ball. High scores and progress are saved to disk.
The game runs at 30 fps on NTSC machines and 25 fps on PAL, with two-voice music through the built-in speaker. It requires a 65C02 and runs under ProDOS.
Micro-Sokoban — Apple II+ with 48 KB and later models
Micro-Sokoban brings 454 puzzles from David W. Skinner’s Microban I–IV collections to the Apple II, plus five introductory lessons.
It features keyboard and joystick controls, undo/redo for the last 1,024 moves, ten player profiles, saved puzzle positions, and a Hall of Fame. There’s also optional solution playback if you get stuck.
The HGR graphics support colour and monochrome displays, and version 1.2 adds a two-voice title tune using the built-in speaker. Everything fits on one bootable DOS 3.3 disk.
Thanks to David W. Skinner for the Microban puzzles and Michael Pohoreski for the Beautiful Boot font.
