Windfall the british User magazine scanned and loaded to asimov

Hello to all AF-members,
during past days i have scanned from my archive the entire bunch of WINDFALL magazines i have.

Windfall was a british User magazin from July 1981 till Beginning of 1984.
In first 2 years it was published each 2 months and in last year they switched
to monthly editions. This decission caused the magazin to shut down soon later...
this caused only very few magazins to survive the decades.... so they are quite rare...

Nearly all of this magazines have now been scanned and uploaded today to asimov.
They should become availiable to public within next days.....

The magazine had rather good reviews to games, an excellent part dedicated to use of Apple in school,
neat codeparts and small code snippets.....
also the hardware reviews had good quality.....

it´s worth taking a view to them and get switched back to the time of 82 / 83, when Apple II was in market and
Apple III and LISA was raising up at the horizon....

Update:
in the meantime the magazines have been sorted in a new directory, due to the fact that asimov had no issue of windfall before... the new directory is at:
ftp://ftp.apple.asimov.net/pub/apple_II/documentation/magazines/windfall/

UPDATE II:

In the measntime i also started scanning the additional 2 years of the magazin.....

the story behind:

up till 12/1983 the magazin was published as WINDFALL....

From the beginning of January 1984 the magazine changed the name to APPLE USER and only a small
text below in the title displayed a notice that the magazin was formerly called WINDFALL.

Nevertheless the crew remained the same and also the layout inside only changed very little...
anyhow it´s also a real great gimmick for LISA and MAC users to read the stories....

not only the publications on the arrivel of both systems in the market and the first testings and prayers
for all the features make a lot of fun...
there is also in beginning of 1984 a large interview with Steve Jobs
inside in which he explains the plan of Apple Computer and the strategy how Apple wants to survive the battle with IBM....

the magazin is also a reference for some rare interface cards and other hardware not so well known in the public
and as explained in the text above the introductions and reviews of a lot of games and software in large one sided advertisements explain the features of several softwarepackages....

i expect to complete and upload that additional 2 years of the magazin within the next 2 or 3 days....
and i will create a kind of indexfile that contains all the indexpages from each magazin in one file, which will enable the reader to view the contents of all magazins in one large PDF file and permitting search for specific
topics or contributions and getting info in which year and which month the topic has been published.
......

enjoy
sincerely speedyG

Re: Windfall the british User magazine scanned and loaded to ...

Hello to all AF-members,
while i am ticking in this posting at the same time the upload line is running hot
as there are the remaining issues from 01/1984 till up to 11/1985 getting tossed to asimov.
so that are the final 2 anual batches of the magazin. I´ve added a smaller pdf-file with
the contentpages of all magazins so every user may download that file and be able to search
for specific topics and see which contribution has been published in which issue of which year....
i hope i will be able to update tommorow in which folder that files have been moved....
i just can repeat that this magazin also contains a lot stuff upon the LISA and the very early MACs.....
so i hope that will make several guys - not from the Apple II fraction - happy too....
have a happy flashback to the early to mid 80´s .....
just for example in one is a very neat picture of Prince Charles at a fair upfront of an Apple....
he carefully makes an attempt to strike with one finger the keybaord of that Apple with such care -
it seems he fears that the Apple might open it´s mouth and bite off his finger.....
Yes that furious Apple computers have been well known to strike back..... ?

Hello AF-membars,
now the issues of the follow-up magazins "APPLE USER" that have been the continueing of WINDFALL
have been sorted in at asimov. For better overview the administrator at asimov decided to pack
that issues in a subdirectory, so the top level contains the starting issues WINDFALL in the top
level - and the later APPLE USER one level below that directory at:
ftp://ftp.apple.asimov.net/pub/apple_II/documentation/magazines/windfall/apple_user/
In the level above, where the WINDFALL have been sorted, is the PDF-file with the contentpages of all issues
( WINDFALL and APPLE USER ).

My listing

I vaguely recall having a listing published in one of these magazines. It was either Windfall / Apple user or Orchard. It was a graphics editor written in assembly. I can't remember the year, I must have been a teenager at the time. I wish now I'd kept the issue.

If anyone stumbles across it, please do let me know.

Archive.org as well?

This is wonderful work! Thanks a lot!

It would also be very cool if you could upload your PDFs to archive.org as well. (They currently have only five issues.) This will provide much faster downloads, on-line page-by-page viewing, full-text search of all issues (they automatically OCR uploaded PDFs) and so on. Or, if you're too busy to do the uploads yourself, I'm happy to do them for you.

It took some considerable searching but I eventually found my program listed in issues June 1986 to August 1986 on ebay.
