emate 300 desktop

Hey everyone!

This mod project is not technically a MAC per se, but here goes:

One of my new years resolutions is to build a "desktop" computer of sorts out of a newton device. It will be used for typing text into and for people (the 'rents) to type notes into so I won't forget important family functions + appointments. Just leaving an eMate around isn't very inventive nor is it particularly elegant.

I'm leaning towards using an emate 300 as the brains of the project because it's got a big screen.

Problem is I'm probrably going to have to disconnect the built-in keyboard to do it and that's the main way to turn on the unit's backlight, and to navigate the Newton OS.

Can anyone think of software that would put the icons on the screen of the emate the way they appear on say, a messagepad 2x00 unit? Ideally I'd like to connect an external newton keyboard. Your ideas are greatly appreciated.

Happy New Year!

Also does anyone know of a relatively practical way to extend the eMate's keyboard connector ribbon?

Thanks again!
