DVI screen installed on 500mhz Tibook

I recently replaced my screen and unfortunately, come to find out it's a DVI screen.
What is described here: http://www.applefritter.com/node/8199
is exactly what's happening with the unused pixels. Does any solution exist
that could force my TiBook to display the higher resolution?

I did send an email to posting owner above and he wasn't aware
of any definitive solution, though suggested adjusting screen parameters in
OpenFirmward MIGHT be a solution, but not certain.

I know, buy the right screen next time. Unfortunately, I purchased on Ebay
and it sat for about 4 months until my IT guy could help me swap screens.

Thanks for listening and any thoughts, good or bad, would be appreciated.

Nope...

you're hosed. Open firmware isn't going to do anything for you, best thing to do would be sell the dvi panel and buy a vga panel.

Not so quick there Mr./Ms. Nope:

While I cannot say an OF hack will work, I'll say that without some real OF expertise, one cannot say with certainty that an OF hack won't work.

Now I may be totally misremembering here, but IIRC, OF provides words to specify the output screen's resolution. Can any OF gurus weigh in here please?

true, but...

I'm pretty sure that anything in open firmware isn't going to be able to tell the gpu to output a resolution higher than it's capable of displaying.

re: true, but...

The GPU is capable of outputting a higher rez. Well, that said, I won't swear higher rezes can be put out through the built-in LCD interface. Still, it's worth exploring the possiblity, both for the poster of this thread and for anyone who follows.

Now where are the AF OF gurus dammit?!?! Show yewrselves!! Acute

same issue!!! HELP!

I have done the exact same thing with a 667 DVI screen on a 400 VGA. If you find an OF hack, please post. Is it possible to hack the ATI driver to force resolution? Just a thought. I have tried SwitchRes, but it will not allow a res that is incompatible with your machine. BOO!!!
