Hi,
Can anyone help me? I recently got my Mac CC with Mystic upgrade. I added 128mb RAM and the system was running fine with version 7.5. I just received a new in box version of OS 8.1. I took out the CD and did a clean install. Now when the machine boots up I get the following error message.
Sorry, a system error occured.
bus error
To temporarily turn off extensions, restart and hold down the shift key. I do as it asks and it starts to reload with the extensions disabled message, but then goes back to the above error message again.
I then tried to hold the spacebar down to bring up the extension manager like the 8.1 book says. Alas, it never comes up. The OS loads and gives me that above error message again.
At this point i figured I'd just try re-installing a clean copy. I follow the instructions and hold down the C key to boot off of the cd, but either the CD drive just opens and the OS boots then gives the error above, or nothing happens with the CD and the OS gives me the above error.
Can anyone help me figure out what the problem is?
Thanks
John
Ok, I did some further research and....
It appears I need to make some disk with system enabler that should fix my issue. What I'd like to know is this. Where can I find the files I'll need to install to a disk to make it work? I'm still new to the whole Macintosh world, so I don't know anything about system enabler. All, I know is that it is needed to make this problem I have, go away. Also, once I find the proper files how can I get my Mac to read them? I don't have any other Macs right now. I'm waiting for a 5500 to arrive still. Can I just find these needed files and place them on a PC formatted 1.44mb floppy? My Mystic has a 1.44mb floppy drive. Also, I did read the info on the fix for this problem, but as I am new to the mac, I am not sure I am understanding it 100%. Can you please tell me what exact files I'll need? I know its system enabler (what exact version?) and are there any other files I'll need to use too?
Thanks
John
John, you don't need system enablers with 7.5 or later. So it must be another issue. What res screen are you working with? Also, try with a smaller SIMM installed, just in case!

Stuart,
I have the default resolution, at least when I bought the unit from a Macintosh eBay seller, they said they don't do the resolution upgrades, that I'd have to do that myself, and I haven't. So basically, I'm working with a 250mb HD, 128MB RAM, on a Mystic CC system. OS 7.5 was working fine, but now 8.1 gives me the errors I mentioned above. I can't figure out what hte problem might be, but I thought I saw mention of some program resedit on one of the sites I was looking for that fixes this problem also. Do you know anything about this resedit?
I've only used 8.1 after doing one of the hi-res/VGA mods. I'm sure that I used 8.x on a PowerMac at 512 x 384, but that may be your problem. Try checking all the sites again!
