I have Tiger installed on a G4 that also has OS 9.2 installed.
When I am in Tiger and start up Classic I get an error message that says (give or take a few words):
[Connection failed: Cannot find network server address or i.p. may not be correct]
It only has an OK button no Cancel button, when you click it the same error comes up. You can't make it go away unless you click the cancel button in the Classic boot window.
Is this happening because OS 9 is configured with cable internet access? If this is the reason how do I cancel cable access for Classic but not for normal booting into OS 9?
Or is there some other reason.
Thanks.
Open the classic Mac OS folder you are using for Classic and drag out the Prefs folder to the desktop. Then restart Classic.
Also in your classic Mac OS folder, check for aliases in the Servers folder. A bad/old/whatever alias in there can cause that sort of problem.

What about all the other apps like quark, photoshop, pagemaker, illustrator, acrobat and on and on.
I would be resetting every app on the mac.
I checked the Servers folder...its empty.
So you don't think it is trying to connect to the cable modem through Classic even though its already connected through Tiger?
EDIT: I just found this link and its the exact problem I am having.
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=302784
My question is if I can't find any aliases for servers in the mentioned areas or know of an app that needs an Appletalk connection how can I pinpoint the problem?
I would really appreciate someone (hint, hint Dan) reading the Apple article above and seeing if something jumps out at you that isn't clicking with me.
The mac with the problem has nothing unusual on it. Adobe products, Apple products, WMV player, Cable Modem stuff (Comcast) etc.
Thanks.
Well, not actually 'trash', that's why I suggested dragging the Prefs folder to the desktop. That way a new Prefs folder is built next time you startup Classic. If that doesn't help, you can then just drag the old Prefs folder back into the SysFolder. If it does help you can then just drag the prefs you need back to the new Prefs folder.

Yes I should've clarified my response. I know you didn't mean to actually trash the prefs folder. Just move it to see if the problem stops.
Dan could you read the Apple article I put in one of my above replies? It is the exact problem I am having.
Maybe you will hit on something I am not getting. It's not easy making changes to a server when you can't find the server that is trying to connect!!
