Mac OS X Boot Problems

On my pismo, I have mac os x 10.3.9, and everytime I reset the power manager or the pram, when i go to boot, it gives me the circle with a line through it. Even when I rebuild permissions and repair the hd, it doesn't fix it. Ive also tried reinstalling os x. But whenever ive got to reset the pram or power manager, it does it again, any suggestions?

Open Firmware?

Have you tried going into open firmware to set the boot device? You may also boot off the install CD and use the diagnostic tools (I think you might try using the "Startup Disk" utility from the OSX installer to set your OSX hard drive volume as the default partition to boot from.

Hm...

Well, Google's your friend. Try searching for:

Open Firmware OSX boot device

or something similar. Depending on the model of your Mac and a bunch of other factors, the Open Firmware commands you'll have to use will vary, so it's hard to post a step-by-step guide here.
