WTB: SCSI card ,and RAM board for IIGS & Some IIE items

Hi everyone.

I am interested in purchasing a SCSI card for my IIGS so I can hook up my SCSI hard drive to the system. I'm also interested n a RAM card. Speakign of which, what is a good amount of RAM to have in a GS? Is 4 meg too little? Whats the max that can be installed?

Anyhow, I've checked eBay and there wasn't anything there that looked good. Actually I saw one rAM board, but it doesn't mention how much RAM is on it.

If anyone has a SCSI and RAM board for sale please let me know.

------------------As for the IIE---------------------

I'm looking for a printer board so I can use a Imagewriter II printer
I'm also looking for a mouse board, A 1 meg Ram expansion board, A DuoDisk drive and if anyone has a nice condition fully functional Imagewriter II.

Well, thats all for now. Please email me at johndraugr at soznet {dot} [net]

Thanks
John

Dang, you're just jumping in with both feet. Wink

8MB is the largest card you can install. A couple of cards of that size were produced - OctoRAM, Sirius... no longer produced, but the Sirius -might- make a comeback. GSE-Reactive was selling new 4MB cards but I think they are out of stock.

IMHO, a 4MB RAM card is plenty enough for most users. Yes, there are cards out there for 6MB, 8MB - but, sometimes cards over 4MB will cause DMA issues with other cards in your system. Also, few apps really take advantage of the extra RAM (Appleworks will). The main reasons people use the extra RAM are for RAM disks, spoolers, etc.

There are FEW reasons to get a SCSI card for your GS, or IIe. CD-ROMs, hard drives, Zip drives... but expect to pay $80 - $150 or even more for a SCSI card on eBay. Your best options are the Apple SCSI (rev C preferred) card, Apple High Speed SCSI card (better yet), and the RAMFAST SCSI card (Sequential Systems) which can sell for even higher than the Apple cards.

For your Apple IIe - to drive your Imagewriter II, all you need is a Super Serial Card, common as dirt, don't pay more than $10-$15 for one. Cables for are plentiful also. TIP: if you're ever planning to network your Apple IIGS, IIe with a Mac using Appletalk, look for an Apple Workstation card - it can do Appletalk AND drive your IWII at the same time. Your GS already has Appletalk support built-in.

1MB extended 80 column cards for the IIe are pretty common. Look for a RAMWORKS III, usually cheap. GSE-Reactive will soon sell a 2MB expansion and RGB interface for it - maybe even the RWIII card itself.

I always scratch my head when people say they want to use a DuoDisk - Apple's flakiest drive ever. I have a couple for display with some beige IIe machines in my collection but I don't trust them for production work.

OK, all that being said... I have a couple NIB IWII printers, a super serial card, 1MB RAM expansion (Ramworks or Sequential), 4MB expansion card (or an 8MB for a lot more) for the GS, and an Apple High Speed SCSI card... in stock.
