Powerbook 180C crashed now not owrking

Is there anyone who can help me please. I have a very old Powerbook 180c which until 3 days ago was working fine via the AC adaptor. It has crashed before but this time will not re-boot. I have a set of discs tha tcame with it for the 160/180 powerbooks which I have never had to use & thought wer a good backup. But my 180C will not accept these & the message comes up that it need a "HIGHER" version than 7.1 to bot up!! Can anyone help please, I have tried everything in the manual without success. Does anyone have the required discs to enable me to boot up they could lend me or copy for me? I am in the UK.

Thankyou

Jon

Is there an "Install Me First

Is there an "Install Me First" disc that you have in that set? So metime the machine needs what is known as an "enabler" to use an older OS, and that needs to be installed so that that message won't come up.

Powerbook 180C crashed now not working

Hi Jon, thanks for trying to help, but unfortunately no luck. I do have an "Install Me First" disc, but the machine won't accept it. Message comes up "This start up disc will not work on this Macintosh model. Use the latest installer to update this disc for this model : You need a newer version that does".
Info on Disc label says "Macintosh Powerbook 160/180", it would appear that the set of discs that came with the s/hand machine some years back don't actually cover the 180C & are in fact earlier ones not suitable for my 180C model. Thanks anyway.

A quick [url=http://www.googl

A quick Google for "powerbook 180c enabler" shows you'll need to download System Enabler 131 fromsomewher and put that on the startup disk.

or you could get the System 7.5 NAD (Network Access Disk) and boot from that to access an AppleTalk share on another older mac that is holding the System 7.5 installer set you can download from Apple. Wink
