I know someone who might soon be in the market for an Apple ][+ or early IIe to run a specific piece of antique hardware that requires an Apple II as a host machine. The ideal configuration would be:
64k Apple IIe or 48K ][+ with 16k Language Card.
2 Disk ][ drives
ADTPro-compatible Serial Card (nice to have)
Everything's got to be reliable (as can be expected) and fully functional. Aesthetics probably don't matter much as the intention is to use the unit for real work and not as a collector's item/conversation piece. There's some indications that Enhanced IIe's might have problems with the driver software, so an older 6502-based unit would be highly preferred. The person would also prefer original-interface Disk ][ drives (or 100% compatible ripoffs) to DuoDisk/Unidisk if possible, because they're concerned they might run into some copy-protection issues otherwise.
The price they're willing to pay is negotiable but based on some leads we've seen already think around the $100 ballpark depending on condition/extras/spare parts/etc. Local pickup within 50 miles-ish of San Francisco, CA would be a big plus.
I'll know within a day or two if the person will be needing the unit, I just thought it might be worth fishing for leads now. Hit me with a private message and I'll pass it along if it's a go.
Thanks!
The auction my friend thought he had in the bag got sniped at the last minute, so he won't be needing the Apple ][ after all.
Thanks for looking.
