Hi.
Like a lot of mac users, I still got an old iMac to make fun - when got nothing else to do. The modem burns out a long time ago. I was using it to share Internet (LAN) Apache etc.
Now, I'm thinking about take off the burned modem (who still browse the Internet by dial net???) and put something more usefull. I beleive there is 3 options:
- A PCI ehternet, so I can better manage LAN
- A USB / FireWire port - iMac 333 got only USB 1.1
- A newer video card - U cannot see youtube with a Rage Pro !!!
So what you think? Somebody had done something like this or am I out of my mind?
I'm pretty sure the built-in modem in the iMacs (regardless of revision) were *not* PCI but rather a proprietary interface.
The original 233MHz iMacs had the "mezzanine" slot, for which a couple companies produced upgrades (a CPU upgrade card and a video card, IIRC), but those cards are rarer than hen's teeth these days.
A lot of people!
Nothing like opening to see with your own eyes! I'd open it: it's not a PCI connector. Seems more like a serial connection.
But the Mezzanine port still there - but no connector. There is a interesting post about it:

At the rev C we got to put the missing connector or a cable directly at the logic board. May work, if we think - why a port that cannot be used?
Something to do in vacations... thanks for the tip!
