Rackmounted Gossamer G3 MB ?

Has anyone tried sticking one (maybe two?) of these into a rackmount case?

A 1U case would look cool, but I still need to use PCI cards so that's out.

These are going to be dedicated video capture stations for two differrent analog video systems - one of which is the old rackmountable VideoVision Telecast which gave me the idea to try rackmounting everything.

I'm hunting for a rackmount RAID case to hold a bunch of 1.6" (half-height) SCA SCSI drives. This would be shared between the two systems (only one in use at a time) by swapping the SCSI cable.

I'm also considering buying two small SCA backplanes (2-4 drives each) and putting one G3 and one backplane in a rackmount case - the gossamer board is so tiny there should be plenty of room.

Ideas, suggestions, hints, criticsms? I want to build something that works well and looks good, but I'm not spending the $$$ to buy expensive new enclosures.

Not yet...

Because I'm still setting up my lab after moving house, but I intend to try this with both a Gossamer (beige) and B&W motherboard Real Soon Now.

PCI cards can be used with right angle adapters - try one from a 5500 or get one from a rack hardware supplier. There's a thread somewhere about possible right angle adapters for the PERCH card too.

As noted elsewhere, I've rough fitted a B*W motherboard and a Radeon 7000 into a 1u case with room for a hard drive and a *small* power supply. I'm looking at the MiniITX supplies that use an external AC adapter and a small internal DC-DC board.

PCI Risers

I'm going to be using all 3 PCI slots. I guess I didnt consider the fact that there could be right angle adapters of different heights. Is that a normal PCI slot on the 5500? 6500? If so on the 6500, how's it deal with two cards?

I'm not really concerned about cramming it into a small case, though I was wondering about 2 gossamers in one case...think of mounting a mb in the left rear corner of a case. Then taking the lid off the case, flipping it upsidedown and mounting a second mb in the left rear corner of it. Flip the lid back around, put it in place and there's a second mb upsidedown with its PCI slots on the opposite side of the case. Might work if you can get everything else in there and cool it well. I'd just need a hard drive for each machine, no floppy and most likey no CD-ROM.

It's very close to ATX, so it

It's very close to ATX, so it should be pretty easy. Try to find a case with a removable motherboard tray.
