emac service notes for mods

Hello,

My girlfriend has given me the go ahead to resurrect her iMac G4 700Mhz machine - a great machine until it suffered the IVAD cable problem. These machines are marvels of CAD but frustratingly complicated on the inside. My goal is to take the machine apart remove the nasty CRT (what a monster)
and patch up the video to an old Samsung 15" LCD. The goal is to have a relatively light and small desktop toaster sized machine with the LCD - so if anyone has a way to get the eMac service notes, please let me know... If not I'll post the result and the lamp I make from the emac case - Smile

Thanks guys!
With this, I can safely build my dream toaster. I am impressed - Other than fabricating a new heat sink and discharging the CRT this will be a breeze.

There are how-to's on the internet that will help you discharge the CRT. However, you should only attempt this if you know EXACTLY what you are doing. If you scriew this up, you can seriousily hurt/kill/implode/melt yourself.

If you do not feel comfortable doing this yourself, dont do it.
If you bring your computer to an electronics repair shop that regularly works on CRTs, you can have them discharge it for you (you may have to toss a few $ there way, but it shouldn't cost you more than a few bucks.

I have provided possibly deadly how to information, if you use this information, you assume all risk to yourself. If, in the use of this information, you kill/hurt/zap/steralize yourself, i am not responsible.

CRT vs LCD

Will the CRT not being connected to the main board cause the computer not to boot up properly? My plan is to use the external monitr hookup for the LCD display...maybe I should rethink this and just hook up a CRT cable to the main video card in the Emac?

At most you will have to install a few capacitors on the slot.
