Help finding imac audio pinout

I'm new here- I've got an iMac power pc G4, and I'm looking for a pinout diagram. Specifically, the 2.5mm 4 conductor jack that services the 2 surround speakers. This jack is a dual Left-Right channel jack, and I need to know what each conductor serves (ie ground1, ground2, left channel +, and right channel +), as well as if the metal sleeve at the base of the speaker plug serves a ground function.
The reason is that I need to find an adaptor to convert a dual L-R 2.5mm plug to a standard stereo 3.5mm plug, and these are very hard to come by. I found one source which supplies them for cell phone adaptors, but the tech guy was concerned that the proprietary connectors may not match up pin to pin-wise (in other words, cell phones and home computers may be different). He has the wiring diagrams for his adaptor, and I need the iMac pinout diagram to check compatability. Can any one here help with this or point me in the right direction? Thanks in advance,
Randy Davis

I assume you're referring to

I assume you're referring to the Pro Speaker jack, as the only other audio output on the iMac G4 is a standard 3.5mm stereo minijack.

I wouldn't mess with the Pro Speaker jack if I were you. Apple did some really funky design work on that one. Not only does it carry amplified analog audio, but there seem to be a couple sense lines included so that the computer knows when the Pro Speakers have been plugged in. If you need another audio output, I'd just buy a Griffin iMic.

Well..

Thank you first of all. Second, what is the other audio output on the G4?? If it had line-level output from a standard 3.5 mm minijack, that would be perfect, as long as it produced output while playing DvDs and music on the hard disk!!
And what is a Griffin iMic? Could this be used to supply audio signal to my external amp, and how would it accomplish this??
(PS I did try Mac tech support via phone, but the kid on the other end didn't even know what a pinout diagram WAS! So thanks for the help)
