PowerBook G3 Video to Ext. Monitor Adapter

Anybody know if there is an adapter to convert the internal video on a PowerBook G3 to and external monitor? Is it standard DVI?

On the flip side, is there a way to use a PB LCD display as a monitor for another computer?

Unless there's a VGA port, or

Unless there's a VGA port, or add-on VGA port, no.

And for using a PB LCD as a desktop monitor...this is the most often asked question here, at least until the ipod questions started.

The short answer is yes, but it WILL cost you A LOT of money and it would be cheaper to buy a VGA LCD monitor. There's no cheat, no easy way, no 'just connect this wire to that wire'. Nope.

If you search the forums here for 'holy grail' you'll find more information.

I guess that wasn't really the short answer.

Video Out

Hmmmm ... O.K. I get the using the LCD as monitor being difficult. But I'm not sure I follow not being able to use the internal video cable to drive an external monitor. Isn't it sending the same video signal to the internal LCD screen as and external monitor would need? As long as I know the pin-outs and the type of video signal I'm dealing with, I would think I could just plug any old monitor into it with the right adapter.

You can't use the internal vi

You can't use the internal video for the exact same reason you can't just use the LCD. The internal video isn't speaking "regular CRT VGA" it's speaking pure LCD, whatever the particular standard of it's day. Be it LVDS or other. To use it you would need a convertor to go from LCD to VGA instead ofteh reverse that you need to use the LCD as a regular VGA capable display. Unless the G3 has a real VGA port or something it's gonna be just as hard as converting the LCD. Sad Sorry.
