I recently came into possession of a pair of NeXTCubes: one original '030, one '040 with a 10BaseT Ethernet port (Turbo model?). Neither Cube is in very good condition, with extensive paint chipping, PROPERTY OF CALTECH stenciled on top, and a dime-sized hole in each where the security bolts were installed, so I've decided to gut one, repaint it, stick some modern hardware in it (probably an EPIA unless I can snag a low-profile G3 or G4 motherboard from somewhere), and use it as a fileserver.
Does anyone know what holds the NeXTBus backplane onto the inside of the case? There aren't any large screws like the ones that hold the rest of the case together, and I can't figure out how to remove it short of attacking the circuit board with a hammer.
If you don`t want the insides anymore, would you consider giving them away to a fellow "Fritter Critter"?
I, for one, would love to pick up some parts. You might want to check out this site for some information on NeXT hardware: http://www.channelu.com/NeXT/Black/
Good luck and let us know how it works out!
