ibook power supply

Has anybody replaced the battery of an ibook with an external power supply??
The internal charging circuit has failed and I was wondering if it was possible to build a power supply to replace the battery.??

Yeah, apple sells them. In fact they come with every ibook...in fact they come with every laptop ever made.

I think...

He meant a third party (or home-made) battery that could be charged from an AC line and output it's power into the battery posts in the battery bay of the ibook. You might want to just get a new board b/c building a battery like that can:
A: damge the ibook if there was a problem with the way the battery was hooked up to the ibook.

B: you could damage the battery if you do not build a proper circuit to cut the flow to the batteries when the machine is fully charged. Unless you have one built into the power brick.

I suppose it can be done, but by the time the battery is made, you could've paid for the warranty (or non-warranty) labor to fix it (or you can get the board off of ebay and do it yourself)

I have a manual for the Dual USB 14" ibook if you need that

power supply for ibook g3

Sorry I didn't make myself clear. The battery charging circuit in the ibook has failed. Also the external power supply. I was thinking of building a mains adaptor to supply the necessary voltages to the ibook via the battery posts. (with the battery removed, its dud anyway). If I could get the pinouts and the required voltages that would help.
Appreciate your reply and hope you can help more.
Thanks
