Pismo Video Issues

Hey everybody,

I have a Pismo G3 500mhz that I recently acquired. It's pretty decent spec, 256mb ram, 40gb hard drive, airport card. It's a great machine, but one weird issue. I do not have any video on the LCD. If I boot it into clamshell mode, external video works fine. When connected to the tv via s-video cable, mirroring works great too. The backlight for the lcd comes on, and responds to the backlight adjustment keys, so the backlight and inverter are working as designed. I have replaced the lvds cable to no avail, and have tried a known good lcd, same symptom. I think it's a bad logic board, but I feel as though I am forgetting something. In my years as an Apple certified Portable tech, the pismo is the one machine I have little to no experience with. When it comes to titaniums, aluminums, and iBooks of all shapes and sizes, I'm good, but not with the pismo. Does anyone know of any sources for inexpensive pismo boards (sub $100). I would prefer to get the board through a fellow fritter before going eBay.

my usual advice to . . .

reset the nvram. (reset-nvram and reset-all) Biggrin

Also, does system profiler show the builtin screen as active?

It's sure possible the builtin video is fried. Here's a similar (?) symptom example of fried HW, though with a DVI TiBook.

I've already done the reset-nvram & reset-all to no effect. I haven't had a chance to tear it down quite yet, so I'm unsure about the burnt up piece. I've seen that happen with backlight transistors on the iBook G4's (lots of fun because the board burns up and the frame gets charred.)
