coaxing the B&W FireWire boot

So... the B&W doesn't boot from FireWire, huh? Just doesn't have the right firmware, right?

But I know there are friterers up to the challenge...

If a 9600 with a firewire card CAN (sometimes) boot from a firewire drive, using XPostFacto... then why not a B&W? (My point being that 9600's are older than B&W's and Yikes G4's, and have no onboard firewire, thus no firmware to allow it to boot from firewire... so... you get the point.)

I just tried XPostFacto 3.1 (on the B&W), and I get a splash screen that says XPostFacto doesn't work with this model PowerMac... funny... I could have sworn that XPostFacto worked on models not specifically supported... there is a joke in here somewhere...

Anyway, I'm at a loss...

Arguments? Ideas? Suggestions?

Xpostfacto.

The reason that Xpostfacto 3.1 doesn't work with the b&w mac is that the b&w is supported by apple for all versions of OS X. XPostfacto starting with 4.x supports new world machines, specifically the b&w to facilitate firewire booting.

I tried

I tried the 4 beta, and it wouldn't load from OS 9... I'll try it again, thanks (guess I'll try it from OS X, too!)
