Promise ATA Controller + Mac OS X?

I've got a Promise Ultra 100 ATA controller that has given me trouble-free service since I got it about 18 months ago. I'd very much like to put this in my Quicksilver, if possible. When I plug it in, the drives connected to it aren't recognized, and it doesn't come up properly in System Profiler. I've googled for drivers and information, to no avail. I'm fearing that this might be a PC-only device, but I thought that I'd ask the wise people here at AF before I took it out of the Quicksilver.

Does anyone have any info that could potentially make this work?

Thanks,

The Czar

For all practical purposes you're SOL

The hardware in Mac ATA cards is essentially identical to the PC versions, but you *need* an OpenFirmware BIOS.

Here's a procedure someone posted for pirating the ROM from a Mac-Branded ATA/66 card to a Promise version. It involves soldering and access to both cards:

I suppose you could do something like that, but....

Thanks for the suggestion, bu

Thanks for the suggestion, but I 'spose it would be easier to get a Mac compatible ATA card. I'll go search eBay.

Cheers,
