G4 Quciksilver 2002 - died trying to install 2.0ghz upgrade

I'm not an active hardware hacker but I have done my share up processor upgrades and such. But this one has me baffled. I have a G4 Quciksilver 2002 866ghz that was running great but sluggish. So I decided to install a Giga Design 7A-2000U single G4 rated for 2.0ghz. I followed all the instructions, the firmware upgrade and all went well. Then I carefully removed the processor (I managed to get the heatsink off without too much trouble) and installed the new 2.0ghz. Then I hit the start button, it chimed, the screen lit up briefly then nothing. So I hit the pram reset switch on the logic board which shut it down and I held the button down for another 10 sec to be safe.

I held my breath and hit the start switch again and now not even the chime! The fans start up, the hard drive spins up but no chime and no flicker on the screen. In fact even the power switch light light goes out as soon as I let go of the button.

To keep this long story as short as possible. I reinstalled the original processor but the same symptoms persist. I took out the HD and put in into an external firewird box and it boots up my iBook just fine. So it's not the HD or the system.

I fear I may have fried the logic board (I have heard that this can happen). I do have an older B&W G3 450ghz. Is is possible to swap out logic boards? Will the newer board from my quicksilver work in that old chassis with it's power supply? I would like to find out if it really is the logic board or not.

Any other ideas or help would be much appreciated.

Randy

Did you push the cuda button

Did you push the cuda button while the computer was turned on? if so that is your problem. There is no such thing as a pram reset on the motherboard. to perform a pram reset you must hold down the option+command+p+r keys at start up. The power supply from a b/w will not work, and on top of that none of the ports on the mother board would match up.
