No, it can't. Only macs that came with a keyboard that had a power button can power on from it (B&W G3s, Bondie and Fruit iMacs i think).
However if you press the power key while running, it will prompt you with the dialog to shut down, restart or sleep.

I have a question on this subject.

I have a digital audio motherboard that is part of a hack I've been building for quite some time. The DA systems are not supposed to start up via USB as far as I remember, but mine does.

Also of note, the Gigabit Ethernet port has gone dead on the machine, perhaps having something to do with it. Anyone have any thoughts on this? Am I correct in thinking the DA shouldn't power up from the keyboard?
