So I have a lovely little TiBook 667, and today it decided to no longer accept CDs.
I stick it in, it makes some whirring noises, and spits it back out. I've tried multiple discs (that work in other computers) and I've tried it in OS 9 and X.
Is my drive physically busted? can it be brought back to life?
Oh how I hope for Intel Macs soon so I can finally buy a replacement...
My 12" AlBook does this too, periodically. If you don't stick the disc in there just right, it'll accept the disc, spin it for a few seconds, then spit it back out. Thankfully, the machine's only 3 months old, so it should be covered (assuming the problem decides to manifest itself when they take a look at it).
Lucky you, mine was bought in August 2002.
sounds like the drive may be dirty or just a bad drive
Anyway to clean it that doesn't involve money?
This is probably a huge shot in the dark but worth a try. Just tonight I tried putting in a cdrw disk in my drive and it accepts it but nothing shows up on the desktop, nor does it ask me what to do with it (e.g. prepare it).
I tried a few disks and they were all the same. I than opened Disk Utility and repaired the permissions of my hard drive. I than ejected the disk (f12) and put it back in and all is normal now.
Give it a shot!
