My limping Apple II+ - yet some kind of hardware problem

Yesterday I finally got the NTE6889 transceiver ICs, that were going to replace the faulty 8T28 IC's in my Apple II+. However, when trying to boot from disks, my Apple still crashes. And NO, it is not a disk problem. I have tried moving the disk drive + floppy to another Apple, which can boot fine.

My Apple will crash only after reading the floppy disk for some time. Different floppy disks will make it crash differently, but it is always the same type of crash for a certain disk. E.g. if I boot my DOS 3.3 system disk I get this:

Difference between european/american Apple IIe ?

I am looking around for an Apple IIe, but it struck me that I don't know about differences between american and european IIe models, except for the AC rating of the power supply. Are they identical, or can the american model be mod'ed to fit european video standards (as on the II+)?

Anyone happens to have an old IIe for sale?

Looking for game - "Conan the barbarian"

I have a floppy disk with "Conan the barbarian", which became corrupted maybe 10 years ago. I would really like to play this game again, but I cannot find it on the internet. Anyone here who has a copy (image file or on disk)?

Cassette input/output to PC's mic & headphones

I was trying to record data from my Apple IIe on a PC, by connecting the Apple's cassette in/out to the PC's mic input and headphones output. Mostly because I wantet to save some stuff, and I had no tape recorder. But I could never do a proper recording/playback of the data. The PC did record some noisy modem-like audio, which sounded OK, but the Apple never managed to read back the data properly (I think it failed a few times with a checksum error, and a few times without error).

Any suggestions? Shouldn't it be possible to do this?

nOObie questions: mouse and ethernet and ISA

1. mouse: the DB9 apple II mouse is not compatible with a
"generic" DB9 mouse? does it need an adapter?
2. is the ISA slots compatible with a generic ISA card, so that its just a ____ question of drivers to make any ISA card work?
3. follow up to question 2 - are there any drivers for common ISA ethernet
____ cards like the 3c509 or the NE2000 ?

thx, capybara Smile

Omnidrive

I remember going into my computer lab (i was a lab admin in 4th grade Wink ) and seeing about 13 apple IIe's connected to a HUGE drive called the Omnidrive. Does anybody know about this thing? All of the apples connect to it, and upon bootup, the omnidrive boots and displays a login prompt of sorts.

Apple II+ video - color only works in games, not in Applesoft?

Sorry for posting another video topic, but I have scratched my head quite a bit over this new problem...

I have an LCD flat-TV connected to my Apple II+ and Apple IIe, and I get 4-color graphics when playing games (e.g. Wavy navy - what a great game!) on the IIe (I cannot get disk drive working on II+). But when I try plotting graphics in Applesoft on either II+ or IIe, I get striped blocks in low-graphics, and only white in high-graphics. E.g. I tried there short programs:

10 GR
20 FOR I=0 TO 15
30 PLOT 1, I
40 NEXT I
50 END

Apple II+ video type? Damaged :-(

I am looking around for a color monitor that I can plug in, but I am not sure exactly what types of monitors I can use. The Apple manual says the video is NTSC, but can be modified (mine is) to suit European standard CCIR monitors (b/w or color). But to get PAL, you need special hardware.

So are there any suitable CCIR color monitors for Apple II+ available today?
