best way to set up a system made to run just 1 program

fellow Apple II enthiousiasts,
I'm setting up 2 APPLE IIe's to run only one single piece of software.

I'd really love to get rid of the floppies or tape interface.
I've seen all kinds of solutions the past few years, scsi, compactflash, ide controllers and now even a USB stick?
Prices can get quite high though.

What is the cheapest solution for me? (keeping in mind I only ever need to run 1 program)

thanks in advance

Hi,
I am looking for the where abouts of Kris Kirk. He was mention a few times in the Hard Core Computist. He was also friends with the Sysop there as well. He was in the army, stationed in Hawaii and NC.

First Apple Memories

I remember in 1983-84 in grade 6, everyone our math class got 2 30-minute sessions per week where we could go to the library and program our math assignments (simple Applesoft programs). And play games when we were done. Hard Hat Mack was the first game I played. It took me a long time to figure out how to advance to the next level. I just liked to keep jumping up and ringing that little bell in the upper left corner.

I can't get my floppy drives to work

I have an Apple //e that seems to work fine except for its disk drives. When I turn it on their lights flash once, then shut off. They don't make any noise or respond to any commands that I type in. I've already replaced the disk interface card, and I've bought a new drive, and nothing is working. Can anyone else think of something that may be wrong?

Apple ii emulators on the Mac... any way to save the game in progress?

I believe that Virtual ][ can do this, but it's $50--and there's no way of testing the saving ability before plunking down one's money! (Not good!)

I'm wondering if any of the free emulators out there (Sweet 16, Catakig, OSXII, etc.) can save a game in progress. I have several of them and some actually have good documentation, but neither the directions or my experimenting has netted me a way of saving a game while you're playing!

Yet, for something like Odyssey, and for any long-term game where you might get bumped off, saving as you go is essential!

WordPerfect IIe/IIc... how to list the files on a drive?

When I'm within WordPerfect and I want to load a document from diskette, I hit open-apple 7. But I have to know the name of the document. Instead, I'd like to get a list of the files on the diskette.

I tried several things at the Retrieve File name prompt, including ? d2 and /Work (the name of the diskette) but had no luck.

Does anyone know how to get a list? Maybe there's a basic ProDos command I need to use there.

Was also curious if anyone knows of a link to a WordPerfect IIe/IIc manual or a full list of the commands...

Apple iic, IIc+ boot from external drive; also Unidisk 5.25"?

A couple of years ago I fulfilled a bit of nostalgia & computer lust and finally got myself an Apple IIc computer! (Well, one thing lead to another and I also bought a IIc+!)

I had two questions:

1) How does one boot from an external drive?

I believe I figured this out 2 years ago, but have forgotten how! I'm wondering about it in case the internal drive fails. I tried PR#7 on the IIc and that didn't work.

2) Is there something special about the Unidisk 5.25"?

Word Juggler 2.7 anywhere?

I realized that the old thread I started (gee, it's been over 2 years!) on Word Juggler has a title that really doesn't apply any more. So, I figure I'd start a new thread.

I'm interested in tracking down a disk image of Word Juggler, but it has to be 2.7. Earlier version required a hardware modification to the Apple IIes to work.

Two years ago, none of the usual sources had it.

I'm on the verge of selling, recycling my old Apple II stuff, but I figured one last fling of playing around with it would be in order!

And WJ is the one the got away!
