"DuoDock AIO concept" revisited

Here is my story.

I have a Duo 280c and a DuoDock 2. I wanted to join the Duo with the DuoDock 2, so I could get rid of the monitor.
I took off the top of the Dock, put the Duo in and pressed the power. No surprise the screen did not turn on.

So I searched all over to find some way to activate the LCD. One day I stumbled upon this web site, and found the answer in a fourm from May 1, 2004. I read it through, and was utterly confused. I could figure out what dock they were talking about, and if removing the ROM IC would deactivate the SCSI port, the Ethernet, and the floppy drive. Here is the original forum:

I was hopping there was some one who could answer these questions:

1. How do I activate the LCD screen on the Duo while it is docked.
2. What (if anything) will this deactivate.
3.Does any one know of any cool hacks with the Duo.

Here ya go:

Trash80toG4 sez:

If it's a Dock I, you need to desolder the powerpin on the ROM and the LCD will automagically begin to function, but doing so will bork all your Dock services except NuBus and the hardwired Docking Connector services like ADB, Sound and Modem passthru, IIRC.

If it's a Dock II I think you can just lift the whole ROM chip out - carefully Acute

Try holding the reset button in for 30 seconds if you still aren't getting a result.

The "Search" button at the link above will lead you to lots of pages with the words "duo hack" in them.

When I get my work area sorted out, this is on my hack list too.

So....

I can take the ROM right off and everything will work fine, like the SCSI, Ethernet, and Floppy?

No

Read the quote above or go to the link. Or go Home - old site - forums - search. But in short, no, the three things you named will not work.

Do you mean the Dock or Dock II?

When I was experimenting with a Dock II (before I sold it), I took the ROM off, plugged in the Duo, and had no problems accessing Floppy, Ethernet, or SCSI... Granted, I haven't tried it with the Dock, as I am loathe to desolder anything that I might need later, but I can tell you from first-hand experience that they all worked without the ROM.

Nubus cards did not work, though...
