Canon EOS Digital Rebel macro lens

Does anyone have suggestions for macro lenses for the Canon EOS series? I currently have the EF-S 18-55mm les and a 70-210mm Tamron lens, but in regards to close ups, the 18-55 and 70-210 are not appropriate for it.

I have a 28mm f/2.8 that I us

I have a 28mm f/2.8 that I use for work that's pretty good for macro work...I can get about 6 inches away form the subject and retain focus.

Depending on how much macro work you need to do, a macro filer on your 18-55 might work fine.

macro usage

I do onsite work with equipment, and in an effort to track flaws, I often take photos, and a macro would assist incredibly. Presently, I've been using the 70-210 from across the room. It's silly, time consuming, and not efficient enough.

extension tube or closeup lens

What's your budget? I'm quite sure Canon makes several suitable macro lenses for your camera system, as do the various aftermarket lens makers. Visit B & H and see what's available.

However, another possibility is an extension tube which goes between the camera and lens. Here's another example.

Next choice is a closeup lens which mounts on the front of your existing lens, same as a filter. These are available in various 'powers'. The best quality units have quite good optics and are pricey, though lesser quality but more affordable lenses are still very useful.

Tamron

If you check different photo forums you will unanimously hear people say that the Tamron 90mm f/2.8 Macro lens is hard to beat. Very sharp, great contrast, ability to use manual focus as well as AF and 1:1 macro.

50mm Sigma

Sigma 50mm f2.8 1:1 is a superb macro lens. Played about with it in the past and love it. When I eventually get round to a D-SLR it's on my shopping list.
