Wallstreet mod: Larger, right-side-up Apple logo on lid...?

Anyone have any experience with cutting through the lid behind the LCD? Easy, moderately hard, or impossibly difficult to get it right...? I'd like to see the Apple logo right-side-up, maybe even multi-color.

Google? ISTR...

I've seen such a mod documented somewhere on the Web. The guy cut a circle out around the Apple logo and rotated the circle. He put some paint or perhaps a nice-looking gasket between the cut-out circle and the rest of case to cover the small gap created by the blade of whatever he used to cut it out.

It was a hack that required some equipment and skill, but IIRC it didn't seem super-difficult.

Sorry I can't remember where I saw it.

Yeah, I've seen it. Requires access to some pretty heavy duty shop equipment. Hoping to find how-to info for a "clear a space on the garage floor" project ;^)

I'm thinking maybe a diamond shape cutout, especially if I can figure a way to enlarge the Apple logo cutout. Willing to settle for just being able to turn the logo over, but really wanna complicate the project as much as possible 8^P

I have to disagree with you. I've owned two pismo and used many others. The Apple logo is definately upside down in reference to the powerbooks of today.

Here's the site...

I know you're looking to mod a G3 wallstreet, but I found this site where the guy mods a G4 logo to display in color. I hope if nothing else it provides inspiration...

I'm actually rethinking all that cutting and coming at this from a different angle. Wanna find a circular metallic disk, 1-1/2 to 2 inches diameter, and someone who can enamel it on one side. Pop the white plastic logo out of the WS lid and glue it to the disk (maybe spray paint it a choice color first). Then glue/epoxy the disk over the logo's hole in the WS lid, with the "new" logo right-side-up. Final result would be something like a white circle with a blue Apple logo inside.

Anyone spray painted the rubberized part of the WS "tuxedo" before? Which paint and with what results?

The Apple logo isn't as easy

The Apple logo isn't as easy to pop out as it is with a Pismo or Lombard. It has tabs sandwiched between the lid plastic and the aluminum sheet. You'll have to remove the aluminum if you want to remove the logo.

How tricky is that to accomplish? Any chance of an average, careful tinkerer doing permanent damage?

Well, it's pretty easy to bend the aluminum, but I've heard you can get the top sheet off by applying heat with a heat gun or high-end blow dryer and carefully prying it off.

I wonder if Apple flipped the logo around during the Pismo's last production run.
