Power Computing Power Tower 166

I continue to clean out the bedroom. This is a Power Computing Power Tower 166. It has been upgraded to 300 MHz. It has 384 MB of RAM, and two hard drives. Best offer plus shipping. (Make it worth my while to pack up!) I'd like to see it go to a good home rather than the junk pile. We used it as a server until about a year and a half ago. I don't think the CD drive is working, but as I recall, it's a software problem, not a hardware problem. I don't have the patience to do the research to get it working again.

I guess I should clarify

my comments. They're my Macs, he went over to the Dark Side (to play games, mostly.) We just started using his empty bedroom to store things and it's gotten out of hand. I agree, that would be very uncool if I dismantled his collection while he was away at school. He actually thinks I'm nuts because I like old Macs. He's in that "latest, greatest phase."

What Zip are you in?

Knowing this will help figure out shipping cost, so I can decide whether or not to make an offer. I'm in eastern WA, 99204.

CD problem

Hey,

PowerComputing units shipped with a non-Apple ROM-ed Philips CD-ROM. Before I blew up my PowerBase 180, I used a universal CD-ROM driver that was making the rounds in those days. There are several other solutions so the fix is pretty simple.

My zip code

...is 93901.

Thanks for the info. I thought there was an easy fix for the CD, but since I didn' t need to use the CD I didn't worry about it.

I'm interested in the PowserTower. Could you give some details on condition if still available ? I have a collection of PowerComputing clones and the PowerTower model is one of the few I don't have.

Thanks,

Hi,

Sorry for the delay getting back to you. Glad to hear that someone is keeping the Power Computing line alive. I thought about keeping this one, but I have way too many computers knocking around this house! I am, however, keeping my Power Computing poster. We had 3 or 4 Power Computing computers at our office at one point. Other than the noisy fans, I really liked them.

Other than the currently non-functioning CD drive, it's in very good condition. I believe the processor has been upgraded once, but I'll have to hook it up and double check that.

I think it also has a second hard drive. Sorry to be so vague, but it's late and I just don't have the energy to dig into it right now. I can start it up tomorrow and report back.

Because I'm such a pack rat, I have the original shipping box, should you want that too!

PTower Specs

Here are the details:

It is a Power Tower 166, but when I run the ASP, it tells me the actual speed is 195, so I guess we didn't upgrade this one. It has two hard drives, the original 2 GB drive, and a second 26 GB drive. It's running 8.1, and we added an ethernet card.

If you have any other questions, just ask.
