HD Problem - Keys out of order

My computer has been acting really funny as of late, it started hanging and crashing a lot, so i ran disk utility, and it gave me this response (actually, as i am not in 10 right now, i'm using disk first aid): Keys out of order 4,935. I have tried repairing by booting off another disk and repairing it, but it doesn't work. My solution has so far been to reformat it, but the error came back within a week. My other partitions on the drive don't have the problem, but this partition is within the 1st 8 gigs of my drive (beige g3). What can i do?

It's a Beige G3 with an IDE d

It's a Beige G3 with an IDE drive? What mobo/ROM version is it? How old is the drive? I'd surely keep/make a backup of the whole drive until it gets sorted out. Wink

seen it..

I made a post about it about 7 months back but with a G4 iMac. we ended up junking the drive. We could boot into single user mode, but would not boot fully. It would just hang.
We did a re-format and a week later, the same thing. Using techtool pro, we found that the SMART Status was coming back as "Failed" It also would not mount if you booted the machine off of another external Disk (Firewire laptop Drive) We replaced the drive and I kept the old one. About a month later, I hooked it up to a USB - IDE convertor, and it actually knocked out the convertor whenever the bridge was on the drive. I think it might be the chipset on the HDD that is failing and is screwing up the data as it is being written onto the HDD. It's best to get a new drive and start over.

Same thing happened to my old iBook drive before it went out. So if anything, it is an indication that the drive has failed and is hesitant about giving up the ghost...

Read Around

Everywhere the report is that Keys out of order is a software problem, when software corrupts the b-tree(?).I have an early rev. rom, with an Rage Pro board, firgure that.

you can buy a rev b or c rom from e-bay for cheap for a beige G3. I wonder why there is a early rev rom in a rage pro board. If i was you i would buy a rev b or c rom i think they are the same from what i have read. my beige G3 AIO has a rev b rom and the rage pro logic board witch is the second rev logic board
